François Boucher - The Toilette – 1742 - Oil on canvas, 53 x 67 cm - Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid / Boucher also pioneered these small, intimate pictures, usually of women or young girls dressing and undressing. Although not exactly erotic, they gave the artist an opportunity to paint flesh, and to please his patrons with pictures suitable for their bed-rooms and sitting-rooms.
